Teeth whitening is an excellent way of saying goodbye to your stained, yellow or discoloured teeth. Coffee, tea, smoking, curries, wine all stain teeth over time, and teeth do tend to get discoloured as we age. But fortunately whitening treatments are a safe and effective way to remove unsightly stains. Teeth whitening uses a safe and gentle bleaching process to remove stains and discolouration of the teeth and give them a whiter/brighter appearance. Teeth whitening is a great way to keep yourself looking younger!

Types of Teeth Whitening - Take home kit or Zoom in surgery whitening.

The simplest way to whiten teeth is by a tray-based system that uses bespoke, thin plastic trays that are supplied with and are designed to hold a teeth whitening gel to whiten your teeth at home. The teeth whitening process involves wearing the gel-filled trays for a few hours each day over a period of a few weeks. The trays can both be worn at the same time or separately and are easy and comfortable to keep in place.

You can also have in chair whitening, also known and publicised as "Zoom".

Zoom White Speed In-surgery whitening treatment. With Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed, you can achieve your whitest smile with just one 45- minute treatment. No wonder Philips Zoom is the #1 most requested professional whitening brand by patients in the US. Professional-quality results • Proven safe and effective on teeth and gums. • Light-activated technology for powerful whitening. This is the quick and most effective way of getting an almost instant radiant smile. With the in chair whitening the time frame is shorter, you can get whitening done in an hour's appointment.

The main benefit is that teeth can be whitened fairly quickly in a simple manner. Scientific research indicates whitening done in an appropriate manner and under the supervision of dentists is deemed to be safe, with no more than minimal adverse effects on the dental pulps or the soft tissues of the mouth, and even these are very temporary. The main and very important advantage of tooth whitening is that the process is non-invasive and does not involve tooth tissue removal and destruction. Possible temporary side effects can include an increased susceptibility to sensitivity of the teeth and minor irritation to the gum edges. Sensitivity can be alleviated by the use of specific desensitising products such as a sensitive toothpaste.

Teeth whitening toothpastes are unfortunately not effective at making teeth a lighter shade, and some whitening toothpastes can even permanently damage your teeth because they may contain abrasives.

A Brighter and Whiter Smile can make a big difference to how we feel.
